A multimedia & new media artist working in photography, moving image and installation
Ria Nova (Daniela Vázquez) makes work that lives between the still frame, the projected image and the wall it briefly inhabits. Each project is one threshold — an entrance, an exit, or a suspended interval.
Site-specific installation
A large part of the RIA NOVA practice happens outside the frame. Photographs are enlarged and adhered directly to walls, projected onto found surfaces, or built as ephemeral constructions that are taken down once the exhibition closes. The work exists in a particular room, on a particular afternoon, and then disappears.
What survives is the digital file and, in many cases, a single authorized print — a residue of the installation rather than a substitute for it. This is the new media half of the practice: the photograph treated as a temporary event, the print treated as its archive.
